Pacific Coast Rowing Championship Results

On May 15, Cal Lightweights concluded their season with lots of gold. The varsity men in the lightweight eight defended their title against UC Davis taking first by four tenths of a second. The eight was coxed by Joe Sirody who led stroke seat, Greg Moe, who was followed by Raymond Chetty, Saul Jackson, Mark Tepper, Matt Montgomery, Jon Skinner, Dan Royles, and Ariel Ravid to victory.

Following the varsity men’s lead, the novice men took first in the novice men lightweight eight event defeating UC Davis by nearly ten seconds. The eight was coxed by Rick Lee. The men included in this boat were Carl Tharp, Clifford Chang, Aaron Cook, JD Housman, Jon Ching, John Leikauf, Eric Wevers, and Ben Blazey. The novice men’s lightweight four also finished first by over UCLA and UC Davis. This boat included coxswain Ricky Lee, Carl Tharp, John Leikauf, Aaron Cook and Ben Blazey.

The novice women were unable to compete in a lightweight event because no other boats entered against them, but they made their mark in the women’s open event. The novice women raced in a six boat race that included many varsity boats. The eight finished in first place over UC San Diego by nearly five seconds. The line-up included Elizabeth Swaney (cox), Sarah Bone, Ashley Connelly, Brittany Davis, Frances Kawamoto, Diana Lam, Kathy Kwon, Lara Sinicropi-Yao, and Molly Watts.

The varsity women finished their seasoning battling against Stanford and San Diego State. The women finished off in third place behind both Stanford A boat and San Diego State. The boat was coxed by Megan Klein. The rowers included Melissa Schwab, Jackie Corcoran, Connie Chung, Kristine Romano, Sarah Bermingham, Brittany Davis, Renee Johnson, and Veronica Hanna.
